About Me

Cynara

I grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon and I met my husband while he was working in the Territory. My son and I then relocated to Alberta in 2011.

I worked in Business Administration and Payroll positions in the Oil and Gas Industry until 2015. I then started working on my Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics while I drove school bus in Airdrie. In 2019, I opened my tutoring business and started working as a letter carrier with Canada Post.

Spare time finds my son and I scuba diving and my husband and I hiking with our fur-babies. I absolutely love dogs of all shapes and sizes and am an advocate for adoption/second chances and the misunderstood power breeds.

Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding.

I offer in-home tutoring for students living in Airdrie, Alberta with travel options available for the surrounding area. Virtual sessions are also available for students outside or in Airdrie.

How I can help

I have had a passion for Mathematics for as long as I can remember. I often find my self doing math problems for fun as I enjoy the problem-solving and challenges.

While studying Applied Mathematics at Athabasca University, a friend asked me to help her understand physics and through this action, I realized just how much I enjoyed teaching Math. Word spread to mutual friends, parents with children in need of tutoring, and “Higher Grades Tutoring” was born.

Everyone has different ways of learning. I explain key concepts in a diverse manner while applying real life examples. I strive to develop a relationship with my students which allows them to feel comfortable and together we find ingenious ways to capture concepts they may be struggling with. We go over examples and work through practice problems. Homework assistance is also available, and I can provide practice test for students to work through between tutoring sessions.
